My Compy is no more :(

Checking in to let all of you know that my home computer has crashed and burned a most spectacular demise. So dear hubby is letting me borrow his laptop so that I may quickly post. All of my saved card photos are unreachable, and I currently have no way to get cards uploaded through this laptop. Once I can get things figured out I'll be certain to post again, not to worry. Hopefully we can have the computer fixed soon and all will return to normal, just without all my glorious pictures and the other good stuff that was on our hard drive. boo hoo hoo!

House Mouse Challenge My Valentine

Another little cutie mouse for the House Mouse Monday Challenge group. This one is a 4 1/4" square. I cut a heart doilie in half, lightly sponged it in SU! pink pirouette, adhered it to some pretty Flair Designs paper I've had around forever it seems, and mounted my cutie little mouse image! The heart center is covered in stickles. Pulled out the label maker for the sentiment for something a bit different. Flower is from Petaloo.

Now for some REALLY GREAT NEWS!!!! When I went to the dr. yesterday, he informed me that the PET scan revealed no signs of cancer!!!! yippppeeeee!!! man, oh man, are we thrilled!!! It did show another cyst that is actually bigger than the tumor on my pancreas (what is up with my body growing these weird things?!), but he doesn't see any reason for surgery now. This is a change from what he had told us at my last appt., but hey, I will take this news in a heartbeat! Anyhow, I have to go back in 6 months to have all the tests and scans run again to see how things have progressed. Sooooooo, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your prayers and kind words of encouragement! It means so very much to my family and me!

HM Design Team Application

House Mouse Monday Challenge has 2 openings for Design Team members. To apply for the postion, each person is required to post why they want to be a member and photographs of 3 creations. I apologize in advance for those of you who regularly follow my blog - you have seen these cards before. But I do consider them to be some of my faves. My fam got a chance to pick their favorite HM card that I have made as well! :) So away we go..........

I have been a fan of House Mouse stamps since I first borrowed several stamps from a friend several years ago. I even remember which stamps they were - "Throwing Daisy Petals" and "Star Spangled". From then on, I was hooked on these precious little mousies!! I have since collected many, many more stamps and have a great time playing with them. I would love to become a member of the HM Monday Challenge Design Team, well, primarily to give me the perfect excuse to just keep creating with these cute critters! Since Gruffy and the Hoppers have been added to the family, they have also come to stay at my home in abundance! I enjoy the challenge that comes with the weekly blog posts - whether through color, embellishments, themes, or sketches. Thank you for this exciting opportunity!

House Mouse Challenge Hugs & Kisses

I am finally getting a chance to play in the House Mouse Monday challenges again, and I actually made 2 cards. I'll post one today and another later on in the week.

This one uses 2 heart die cuts from My Mind's Eye. I have an abundance of many wonderful die cuts from this company, but never had gotten around to using them. I finally decided to pull out my stash and put them to use. The paper is the Daisy D's that I had used on several previous cards. Lace is some really neat stuff made by Wright's and purchased at Wal-Mart of all places! Polka dot ribbon is from there, too. I know this stamp isn't really a Valentine one, but it just seemed like a perfect one for the challenge. The sentiment is from SU!.

Groundhog Day in Punxsy, PA!

On the spur of the moment, the fam decided to take off for Punxsutawney, PA yesterday morning to see the famous weather prediction of groudhog Phil. We left the house at 3 am to make this amazing journey into American culture. All I can say is, "WOW!!!! What an experience!" Not really like the movie, which was filmed in Illinois we later learned, but one I would repeat in a heartbeat.

were so very kind. There are also about 20 of these fun groundhog statues placed all around the town, each one painted in a different manner. We all had our photos taken with different ones. Some of them are quite clever in the design of the painting.

We really did have fun! But as you all know, 6 more weeks of winter. (which I don't mind so much since I happen to like the snow!) And thank you so much for the prayers and kind words for my test. I'll know more after my dr. appt. tomorrow.

Gingham Watering Can

Well what this card looks like now and what it started out looking like in my head are WAAAAYYYYYYY different. but sometimes that can be a good thing. not sure about that in this case though! grins!! :D actually it is growing on me - the butterfly made me like it a whole lot better. it seemed to need that extra spot of POW. any who.......

the deets - The watering can is a die cut from My Mind's Eye. The papers are from Daisy D's. So where is the Basic Grey you may be asking yourself? (those of you who know about my passion or may I say obsession with that particular company know that I use it ALLLLLLL the time!) well, hold your breath no longer - the flower stamps are Basic Grey Insignia clear stamps. I only have about 6 of their stamp sets, but I have found them to be some of the best clear ones out there. no surprise though - everything BG makes is pretty top notch in my book. The butterfly punch is the famous Martha Stewart one, and the scalloped punch along the bottom is the wonderful Fiskars running water punch that I picked up on my shopping jaunt the other day. Button is another from my vintage stash. Watering can and some of the flowers are popped up on foam tape.

A Few Blog Awards

Last month several of you very kindly gifted me and my blog with some wonderful blog awards. Please, please, please forgive me for failing to bring you the appropriate thanks and attention at the time. These really do mean a great deal to me and brought me such joy in knowing that you were thinking of me! Thank you so very much!

Tomorrow is my big PET scan and I'm gonna be bluntly honest - I'm scared of this one. Maybe not so much because of the test itself, but because of what it may reveal. I'm on a restricted diet today. Then tomorrow the test is supposed to last up to 3 hours. My body is going to be bombarded with gamma rays - whoopppppeeeee! We've been joking around at home that I'm going to return with some weird mutant super powers. Of course Tyler, my oldest, said that I'll probably end up with some lame power like being able to talk to squirrels. My husband hopes that I end up 'hair challenged' like him. I had to remind him that only the bad guys in comic books are bald, but then he did mention Professor X from X-Men, so I had to give that point to him! ;)

So what super power would you want to have? I think I have always wanted to be able to fly. But man oh man, Storm from X-Men is probably my most fave ever Super Hero. She is just so cool with those white eyes. Yep, you all know it now. I am a comic book geeky nerd. I watch Star Trek, too. ALL of them. The secret is out. But you still don't know who I am once I don that cape.........

It is downright COLD and SNOWY here today!!!! No school due to the fact that we have had over 9" of snow already! and it isn't supposed to stop for several more hours. whoa nelly - that is A LOT OF SNOW!!!!!!!!

So guess what I've been doing (well other than drinking an entire pot of coffee to stay warm!)? yep, I've been stamping! SURPRISE!!! :D I ventured out to JoAnn's and Michaels for the first time in probably 6 months and had a ball! I bought a few things ( yes, I really was very good and only used my gift card that I received for Christmas from my way cool MIL), but man was it tough 'cause there's lots of cool stuff out there!

Anyhow, last week Julia Stainton showed this amazing technique over on her blog, Belle Papier. She did the mosaic technique but tore the paper rather than cutting it or using labels. I posted that I would try it, but didn't get around to it until today. I added some stickles, vintage buttons (the pearl bauble at the top just never would lie flat for the scan, so sorry!), some great Prima lace, & way cool Anna Griffin paper from Michaels. I hope that you enjoy!

Vintage Cowboy Valentine

Howdy there pardners! I hope that all of you are just fine and dandy this wonderful January day! I haven't stamped in a few days, so I wanted to show you this Valentine's card that I had made a while back.

The card is one of many I made to send overseas to the troops in Iraq. They were blank inside so that the cards could then be filled in and mailed back home. The papers and cute die cuts are from Daisy D's. They make such cute retro/vintage papers and products. The heart on the die cut is covered in stickles. I love to used doilies on Valentine cards. Takes me back to when I was a little girl making my homemade valentine cards for my classmates. I always used doilies on my cards then, too.

• Some info on my health situation - the drs. have discovered some cysts and a tumor on my pancreas after waaaaaaaaaaay tooooo many scans that I have had to go through. I have a PET scan scheduled for this coming Friday, then will more than likely have surgery. Not fun, but what can ya do? I have an amazing hematoligist/oncologist who is doing a wonderful job pursuing all kinds of directions to make sure that he has the most complete answer that he can. My surgery will take place at the Cleveland Clinic, which is one of the very best in the region, so I am blessed to have such a reputable hospital nearby. Blechy overall, but there is still good to be found in the midst of it! :)

Inka Retro Owl - He's sooooo square, man!

Hello! Hope that all of you are doing well!

I was playing around a little bit with some different textures and came up with this card. The piece behind the Inkadinkado owl is actually a scrap of cardboard that I tore apart. I must say that I wish I had used my brown Stazon rather that my choco chip SU! ink, but did make the correction on another owl card that I made. Stazon is just so wonderful for getting a rich, clean stamped image. I like the Memento inks, too for the same reason. The decorative paper is from the Basic Grey Mellow collection. Felt pieces are from Maya Road and pom pom trim is from Webster's Pages. The card is 4" x4" square.

Mid-terms are finally over for all 3 of the Scull boys, so there is MUCH rejoicing at this house tonight!!!! ;) We are blessed that they do quite well in school, but they are still relieved when those tests are over. 2 of the boys are working lights for the upcoming high school musical (no, not THAT ONE! grins!!) so they are off at drama for a few hours, but then it is a long weekend off from school to relax and enjoy some much deserved R & R.

A Vintage Obsession! :)

Good evening! I was able to make a few cards today, but had to, I mean REALLY HAD TO make a vintage card to finish things off!!!! ;) I can make other cards, but then I just had an itch to get back to my true love - those distressed, shabby, torn up, old roughed up cards that look absolutely ANCIENT! :D So this is what I whipped up. My youngest son even graciously fixed dinner for all of us while I stamped. How cool is that?!?!

This card uses 2 sets by Stampin' Up - Bella's Bloom (stamped in the bg) and Bloomin' Beautiful. I tried the Cracked Glass technique again, and am really pleased with how it turned out. Sponge a bit of brown ink in the cracks and it ages the piece quite nicely! The pink pirouette cs was sponged with both vanilla and white craft ink to add some interesting effects. The paper is from Daisy D's. The flower is Prima and the buttons & lace are vintage treasures from Etsy.

Happy Weekend to all of you! Hope it is a good one for y'all! I received the exciting news today that a saying I submitted for a contest hosted by My Favorite Things over at Paper Craft Planet is being used on a brand spanking new stamp set that will debut in February!!!! Imagine my shock upon discovering that little tidbit of information! I will receive my own set of stamps in the mail when the set is released the first week of the month! I am amazed!!!! Can't wait to see what the finished set looks like! Knowing MFT, it is going to FABOOOOO as always!!!!

I wanted to show you a gift set that I made for the holidays using stamps from Stamping Bella. This stamp is LatteBella - of course she is one of my faves! wink, wink!!! The saying is also from Stamping Bella and one I have used with stamps from other companies, too - mainly my little Riley Moose from Hanna Stamps. The papers are from Basic Grey (Mellow Collection) and Flair Designs. The can is actually a Pringles chip can that I altered and filled with single serve coffees. Ribbons are from May Arts and brads are Making Memories. See what you can find around the house this weekend that you can alter and turn into some kind of FANTASTIC crafted goodie! I bet you will surprise even yourself with how clever you can be! :)

I again apologize for being away for so long. I'm visiting drs. trying to determine just what is going on with my poor ol' body these days! HOPEFULLY we are getting closer to an answer and then I can get back to my beloved stamping again!!!!! crossing fingers and toes and eyes and ears and whatever I can find that all will be back to normal (or whatever that is in my wonky world!!!) soon! thank you SO MUCH for your well wishes and prayers!!!!! it means the world to me!!!

So now, on to the card...
This is one of my fave cards that I have made - it is spunky and whimsical (one of my fave words when it comes to papercrafting, as many of you know!) as well as incorporating vintage elements and that fave evah paper - Basic Grey! This happens to use their Two Scoops line. The stamp is from Stampendous and is called 'Birthday Cake' The cupcakes and candle were paper pieced using the BG paper. The frosting, shoe, word 'cake', fork, and laces were covered in stickles to give a little extra glitz and shine. The chipboard photo corners were covered in ink and then sanded to distress. The lace and buttons are vintage finds from Etsy as always! The main image was popped up with foam tape.

It is super cold here, with temps at -6*, and that is without the wind chill factored in! I like the cold, but even that is REALLY cold for me! so all of you stay bundled up and warm! have a nice cuppa something toasty hot and cuddle up with your lovey dovey!

I apologize for being so long in posting. I've still been having some health problems and am trying to get it all sorted it out. No fun whatsoever, and hopefully this next round of specialists and such will find the answers.

This is another of the cards I entered in Sue Daly's card contest. What fun to actually have a vintage category to make cards for! I used Basic Grey Figgy Pudding and Fruitcake papers and Joyeux Noel stamps from Cornish Heritage Farms. The flower is from Prima and the laces and buttons are vintage finds from Etsy.

Vintage Winter is Calling

Just a quick post today. Sorry to have been out of communication for so long. This was one of my submissions for Sue Daly's card contest on her blog. I really like the way this one turned out. All the vintage pieces came together so well - from the paper flowers and book page to the buttons and laces! lots of shimmerz was painted over the main image as well as the cream button. I try to leave some of the vintage thread in wherever possible, which is the case with the navy button in the upper left corner under the paper flowers. This is one of my fave Stampin' Up! sets by far! Have a great day! :)

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends! I hope that today finds you happy, healthy, and enjoying the many ways in which you find yourself blessed! May your day be filled with joy and laughter!

Today's card is another one for a SHINE challenge over at Paper Craft Planet. The 2nd challenge was to create a project showcasing something for which you are thankful. My middle son, Mick, and I had spent Wed. together listening to CD's and talking about music. So as I contemplated this challenge, the lyrics for many of my favorite songs were running through my mind. Immediately I knew that I wanted to use this portion of "The Wonderful Cross" for my card. I have several cross stamps, but decided to step out of my comfort zone, which is something that in 'real life' God asks me to do quite often. So I used some colors that I would rarely pick up in my every day stamping. This card has a different look than mine usually do, and I struggled with it quite a bit. At one point I actually went into the kitchen and prayed, "God, this card is supposed to be for You. But it is ending up being one of my worst ones yet. Show me how to bring some kind of glory to you." And then the pieces started coming together.

So precious Father, this one is for You. Thank you for your grace, that I never deserve, but you pour out new for me every single day of my life. You bless me abundantly with these beautiful people I am blessed to call family. Thank you for loving me even when I am unlovable and for surrounding me with people who love me as you do that I call friends. Amen. :)

SHINE Personality Challenge Card - Angel Faith

I am a member of the Christian stampers group, SHINE, over at Paper Crafts Planet. The first challenge was to make a card that reflects your personality with an emphasis on how your faith in Jesus has shaped who you are today. This verse has brought me great comfort during difficult times. I don't think it shows well in the scan, so I will post it here.

'These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold - and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold.' 1Peter 1:7

I of course used Basic Grey papers, Periphery collection, vintage laces and button, my fave American Art stamps, Adriana Cirstea angel with palm. and finished off with a beautiful prima flower and rhinestones. Shimmerz paints were used here and there (thanks Lindsey, for the tip to paint the edges!) and I brought back out my SU! Linen bg stamp again. The rhinestones are a bit much, but the card was kinda empty without them, and sometimes I'm pretty over the top! (just ask hubby and sons!!!)

House Mouse Challenge Polka Dots and Snowflakes!

Wowzers - 2 challenges in 1 day! this chickie is on a roll! This is really a VERY GOOD THING since I spent several days not stamping. I'm finally starting to not hurt so much - PRAISE GOD!!! Truly I say! there is nothin' fun about hurting bones! I'm still staying either up or down and avoiding the stairs as much as possible, but man oh man, your prayers and well wishes have PAID OFF BIG TIME!!!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!! I have so many pulication deadlines and challenges to catch up on, not to mention holiday projects, so it feels great to feel great! :D

This card is my entry for the House Mouse Monday Challenge to use polka dots in your submission. Is that just not the best challenge?! This is another one of those cutie pie images that Dru gifted to me. The image is small, so the overall card size is 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" square. I pulled out my ol' time fave Linen bg stamp by SU! Oh how I miss using that puppy! I stamped it not only on the main cs, but also on the inside and the red matting cs. I used to use bg stamps all the time, but got out of the habit. Need to start using them again as they are sooooo versatile. The ornament is covered in crystal effects and I painted shimmerz over the polka dots and white portions of the decorative papers. Now you need to sit yourself down for this. I did not use Basic Grey papers on this card. nope. not a one. These pretty papers are by Daisy D's. But aren't they GORGEOUS?! Thought I would throw all of you for a loop today!! :) Have a good one!!!

So I got to stamping today with my lovely stick chicks from American Art Stamps. I had asked last week 'what is your favorite stamp company?'. Several of you responded with some great companies. If I had to choose just one, (and thank goodness I don't!!) it would definitely be this company. I love these stick chicks and the angels by Adriana Cirstea. I could probably be happy to stamp with them forever. But I digress........ (hubby, be quiet, yes I know I do that a LOT!!)

on to the card..... I used this cute "Turkey Dinner" stamp because I wanted to make a Thanksgiving card for the new neighbors moving in next door this week. The sentiment is actually stamped on the interior of the card. Decorative papers are Basic Grey Mellow. All ribbons are May Arts. The leaf in the lower left corner is a felt one with cut-outs that don't show well in the scan for some reason. There are matching felt flowers on the inside of the card. Everyone stay warm today! We have white-out conditions here! So coooooooool - in more ways than one! ;)

Quick Ali Update ~

Just a quick update on Ali Schmidlin as posted by Tosh on Split Coast Stampers very early this morning ~

Quick update...The Schmidlin's are on their way home. The swelling is what they call rebound swelling which is caused when the blood (from when the tumor was bleeding) dissipates and begins to be absorbed by the brain. As the blood reaches the outer membrane, it gets closer to the nerve endings which in turn causes the severe headaches. They're still not sure what type of tumor they're dealing with and plan to biopsy it in Jan. Right now the headaches are under control, but there is always a chance that could change. Unfortunately Ali still has problems with nausea because of the location of the tumor, but they have medicine that will hopefully keep that relatively under control. They also discovered that the tumor is in the frontal lobe and not in the parietal lobe which they originally thought. From what I understand, it will be easier to biopsy because of this.

Danielle drew up this amazing sketch last week (we have 2 weeks to complete each challenge). and wouldn't you know it - my stampin' mojo just up and disappeared today! I had the best intentions in my wonky head, but man oh man, it didn't transfer to my card AT ALL!!! so sorry, Charlie! I'll try again later if I can get the time because her sketch really is cool.

My papers are from the phenom Basic Grey Wassail collection. Ribbons are May Arts and Stampin' Up! Way cool stamp is American Art Stamps stick chick "Big Ornament". The ornament is covered in crystal effects and the boot tops, dress ruffles, hat pom pom, ornament top, and boot jingle bells are all painted in shimmerz. Poinsettia dew drops are placed in the center of SU! felt snowflakes.

Our Blog Candy Winner for this time is Tiffany! Way to go! In case you wonder how I go about picking a winner - everyone is assigned a number and I ask my middle son to pick a number. (he is totally clueless as to why he is doing this by the way! grins!!!) he has done this twice now and has no idea that he has helped 2 lucky people win some great prizes! well, what do you expect from a teenage boy who has a certain girl and computer games on his mind?!!

Prayers please for the Schmidlin Family

I haven't updated in a while about the health issues facing young Ali Schmidlin. You can go to this post at SplitCoast Stampers to read the latest in addition to the well wishes of the community there. Just to summarize, Ali (12 years old) had been sent home from the hospital in Seattle until January to see if the swelling in the growth in her brain could subside to the point that the doctors could then do a biopsy to determine if it was cancerous. She was airlifted back to Seattle 3 days ago because the headaches were so severe and the swelling had intensified. Her mother, Laurie, is a most talented stamper and has the blog, Just Give Me Stamps.

Please, please say prayers for this family if you would. Not only is this a terrible thing for any family to have to go through, but Thanksgiving is approaching, and I'm sure they never invisioned spending it in the hospital with a child in this stage of illness. And then stop and say a prayer of thanksgiving to God for each and every one of your family members. Too often we take them for granted. At least I do. Thank you! I love you each so much! :)

Patriotic Snowflake Elvis

Happy Sunday to all of you! It is a most beautiful day here in northeast Ohio! The sun is shining on the beautiful snow - looks like a picture postcard! I look out my upstairs back window and expect to see a few deer walking along creating their fresh hoofprints in the snow behind our barn. We live right in the village, but have a big 2 level barn/garage behind the house. From there is another half acre of property and wildlife frequently scamper across. It isn't unusual to see deer passing through. Truly a breath-taking sight! one of those little 'thank you, God, I really needed that today' moments!!!!

I'm sharing another of my Elvis Christmas cards today. I love the colors of this one. I had posted it over on the Cornish Heritage Farms gallery and someone commented about the patriotic colors. I hadn't thought about that when I made it, but I like it! I'm proud to be patriotic and I am pretty sure Elvis was, too. I am in LOVE with this vintage lace I found on Etsy. so much so that I went back to the seller and begged her to try to find some more (which she did so very kindly!!) and I bought it all! you'll even find it on my blog header! I'm such a sucker for those vintage laces and buttons! they add so much. plus vintage papers, too! I first painted the paper with butter cream shimmerz before stamping, so this baby SHINES!!!!! the Flair Designs paper is also painted in the shimmerz. Peanut Butter and Bananas! It must be Elvis!

Some of you know that my husband David is the Director of Youth Ministries for our Church District. He returned on Wednesday from a big Youth Pastors Retreat that he hosted in New York. Well, one of the many things that he brought back home from this wonderful excursion was bananas! yep, you read that correctly, bananas! He prepares the food for the retreat and there just happened to be an abundance of fruit left, so he brought some home for us. Now some of us here in the house happen to have a real thing about peanut butter and banana sandwiches. oh yeah, baby....... nothing says lovin' like a big thick gooey sandwich oozing over with yummy-licious nanners and nutter butters! so we have been in hog heaven here at home!

so in honor of these time tested goodies, I am posting one of my Christmas Elvis cards. Trivia time for those of you who don't know that Elvis LOVED peanut butter and banana sandwiches! yep, I'm also a big Elvis fan! :) These stamps come from the ever rockin' Cornish Heritage Farms, the only company officially licensed to create and sell Elvis rubber stamps. The vintage buttons and lace are from Etsy. The entire image is sponged with gold ink to give it a shimmer and shine. Papers are from Basic Grey Stella Ruby. Hope that you enjoy!
